The Wellington Centre will welcome back a familiar face when the newly restored statue of The Drummer Boy beats a triumphant return to its Aldershot home. Depicting a Royal Hampshire Regiment drummer in full dress uniform, the statue has been cleaned and restored to its original colours and will be displayed in a glass cabinet.
A fundraising campaign for the project was launched in tribute to the highly respected former Mayor of Rushmoor and one-time Royal Hampshire Regiment soldier, Jim White, following his death in January. Mr White held a long-standing ambition to see The Drummer Boy returned to the heart of Aldershot and the statue will once again be a prominent feature at The Wellington Centre when it is unveiled later this summer, saluted by drummers from the Royal Hampshire Regiment.
Gary Little, manager at The Wellington Centre, said: “The Drummer Boy was synonymous with the centre for more than 20 years and we are looking forward to celebrating his return.”
The date for the unveiling of the statue is to be confirmed. Please keeping checking the website for more information.
