Town Centre Partnership

Town Centre Partnership

The Wellington Centre is working with key businesses in the town to ensure the continued success of Aldershot Town Centre. The centre has built strong relationships with key stakeholders including the council, key retailers and charities in the local area.  The centre management is committed to a pro-active approach towards driving town centre success and growth.

The Wellington Centre management team have been working hard to help maximise visitors experience with a number of new initiatives to help increase footfall, dwell times and spend.  Events have included Christmas Grottos, Santa Tea Parties, Craft Markets, Wedding Fayres and much more. See our Events calendar for more details.

We enjoy strong relationships with local schools and charities in the area encouraging them to perform in the centre at key times of the year.  Events have included the Army Garrison Christmas Cake Auction, Fancy Dress Competitions and the installation of a wishing well to help raise funds for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.

Going Green

Going Green

The Wellington Centre is committed to reducing its impact on the environment. The centre was producing 187 tonnes of waste per year all going to landfill as no recycling facility was available.

In 2009 a full recycling facility was implemented with nothing going to landfill - cardboard, plastic and paper will all be recycled with general waste being taken to a recycling plant and what can’t be further recycled is incinerated.  The CO2 produced will be reduced from 16 tonnes to 1.7 tonnes.

The centre has invested in two bailers and a compactor and the retailers have been supportive of this initiative.  Not only is the centre now helping the environment but we are saving costs for our Retail Partners by generating income from the recycled plastic and cardboard. The amount of waste going to landfill has decreased dramatically and vehicle collections have reduced from 156 – 12 per year.  This helps reduce congestion and pollution levels in Aldershot Town Centre!

The Drummer Boy Returns

The Drummer Boy Returns

The Wellington Centre will welcome back a familiar face when the newly restored statue of The Drummer Boy beats a triumphant return to its Aldershot home.  Depicting a Royal Hampshire Regiment drummer in full dress uniform, the statue has been cleaned and restored to its original colours and will be displayed in a glass cabinet.

A fundraising campaign for the project was launched in tribute to the highly respected former Mayor of Rushmoor and one-time Royal Hampshire Regiment soldier, Jim White, following his death in January.  Mr White held a long-standing ambition to see The Drummer Boy returned to the heart of Aldershot and the statue will once again be a prominent feature at The Wellington Centre when it is unveiled later this summer, saluted by drummers from the Royal Hampshire Regiment.

A date for the unveiling is to be confirmed. Details will be updated on www.thewellingtoncentre.co.uk
